Flanders Premiere: Reduce Your 'Capaciteitstarief' by Monitoring Consumption Peaks
Here's a new feature on the easyCOLOR that will save you hundreds of euros per year in a fun and effortless way!
How it works: Activate the new "Captar Peak Monitor" feature on your easyCOLOR, and it will blink as soon as you unintentionally generate a new consumption peak, allowing you to take action, avoid the peak, and save hundreds of euros!
Reminder about "Captar": Since Jan 1, 2023, all residents of Flanders with a digital meter pay an additional fee on their electricity bill to compensate for their intensive use of the grid. This is the capaciteitstarief.
How much does Captar cost: Every month, the highest peak (in kW) is recorded by the digital meter and then billed to you along with your electricity.
- If billed annually (+- €45 per kW of the average of the last 12 monthly peaks)
- If billed monthly (+- €3.75 per kW of the peak of the last month).

However, the majority of peaks occur unintentionally, when you are at home.
Example:
- You are cooking with stovetop and oven, but you don't know that your appliances (dryer, dishwasher, washing machine) are running at the same time: 10 kW
- Cooking + appliances + electric car charging + heat pump: 20-25 kW
If you make a consumption peak of 10 kW once a month for 15 minutes, your annual bill will then be increased by €450 (10 * €45)
How much can I save:
With easyCOLOR and the Captar Peak Monitor function, a typical house can easily limit its peaks to 2-4 kW. Even less if you have solar panels and/or a battery.
--> So, it's hundreds of euros to save in a simple and fun way!
Reminder: Capaciteitstarief only concerns peaks over 15 minutes. A 30-second peak at 15 kW is not a problem and will not cause the easyCOLOR to blink.
Simple, yet very precise:
With its mini-app, since version "2220240305", the easyCOLOR also indicates:
- Setting #21: The maximum peak of the current month
- Setting #22: The current consumption over 15 minutes (the one that could create a new peak)
To avoid bothering you unnecessarily, the easyCOLOR will ONLY blink if you are at risk of exceeding the maximum peak of the month. For example, if you already had a 12 kW peak on the 3rd day of the month, the easyCOLOR will only blink if your consumption over 15 minutes exceeds 12 kW. And this number is reset to 0 on the 1st day of the following month.
